Chemo Begins

Forgive me for getting behind in updates.  Lanty has been home now for a week and it’s been a wonderful time, though an utterly busy and stressful one.  We got the results of the biopsy the night he returned home, and spent the next day or two alternating between shock and indecision.
Lymphoma?  Chemo?  Chemo again?  [...]

Update: Biopsy

As you may know from the Twitter feed, Lanty came home today. I elected to attend a networking event downtown tonight while Meg gave Lanty his evening regimen of food and drugs. The excitement was over for now, right?
Well, I am now on the train back home, having just noticed that I missed a call [...]

Home with The Lant

I’m on the couch watching Lanty rest in his new bed, something I’ve dubbed The Catsbah because of its pointed roof and tassels. In the hospital, the staff gave him a soft-sided little cube he could crawl into inside his small enclosure and he really liked snuggle in it.   Not having one quite like [...]

Homecoming

This post is delayed, but here’s a video of Lanty arriving home.  We set down the carrier, open it up, and… well, see for yourself.  His last action in this video made it worth all the worry and effort these past few days.

Lanty wants to go home

Wednesday 11am. 2 days after surgery. Lant is out of his cage while they clean it, and in the meantime he is cleaning himself. He’s having a good day: bright, affectionate, and annoyed at the lack of dignity inherent in all this stuff. If all goes well today and tonight, he can come home tomorrow.

Update: 2 days after surgery

We saw The Lant at 7am just as the night shift was getting ready to go off-duty. The vet tech said that his temp was normal and he had been mostly quiet, but had occasionally shown interest in her. She was a bit concerned that he had piled up all his blankets and then crawled [...]

Mini update

We’re at home getting ready for bed. Latest call to vet gave pretty good news so we aren’t going to do a vigil tonight. This is good, cuz we need our sleep – after last night, today was like a fever dream.
Moderate to longterm prognosis is still not good. In reality, Lanty’s possible [...]

Update: day 1 postop

After very little sleep last night, we got to visit Lanty several times today and, more importantly, talk with the day staff. The night/emergency staff was overworked and couldn’t give us the info we needed to feel secure, so seeing Lant by daylight with the usual staff was a good thing.
When we saw [...]

Interlude: Medical Info

There’s a rash of emergencies at the clinic tonight, making it difficult for us to go in and (a) see Lanty, and (b) talk to the after-hours vet.  Guess it’s a night for animal difficulties.
While we wait to call back and see when we can come in, I’ve been reading:

Update: Exploratory

The Lant was scheduled to go in to surgery at 11:30am today.  Our possible scenarios as a result of exploratory were:

gastric carcinoma, sarcoma, or some chemotherapy-resistant lymphoma
treatable lymphoma (responsive to chemotherapy)
other non-malignant tumor/mass (easily removable)

The first scenario seems the most likely, and is the least treatable.  We can’t know what the situation is until a [...]
